Rumble Ball May 08, 2006

Rumble Ball 4Rumble Ball is a set of four great games developed by the Russian Arseniy Shklyaev, and available on gamebalance, his website. The goal in every opus is to score as many points as you can by hitting colored items with a ball. Both yellow balls and colored cubes score points. The more items you hit at once, the more points will be added to your score. The first item is worth 10 points, the second 20, the third 30, and so on (5, 10, 15, 20 points and so on in RB 3).

Rumble Ball 4You can control the way you hit your ball with your mouse and then click to launch it through obstacles.

There is no limit to the number of times you may hit the ball: having said that, feel free to find the best position without hitting any obstacle, and then pocket as much points as possible on your next shot!

The downside in Rumble Ball 1 and 2 is that you have no control on the ball speed, leading to a real frustration sometimes.

Luckily, in the third and fourth sequels of the game, Arsenij has implemented this essential function, leading to a much more enjoyable game play.

Traps, like mines and holes are also another improvement in Rumble Ball 3 and 4: from now on, you will get a penalty of 250 and 500 points respectively if your ball hits a mine or falls in a hole. Even worse, if your ball ends in a hole, you will have to restart the current level from scratch!

Every Rumble Ball game comes with 5 different levels, for a 5 to 10 minutes play time.

With pleasant graphics, nice sounds (especially when getting combos) and an intuitive interface, Rumble Ball is definitely the kind games everybody likes. Highly recommended!

Want to play with Rumble Ball? Pick a number – one, two, three or four – and enjoy!

Il Destino R May 05, 2006

Il Destino RIl Destino R was released at the beginning of this week by the Japanese creators of Il Destino and The Bar, two famous point’n’click room escape games available on gotgame website.

Il Destino R is a brand new remake of Il Destino, sharing exactly the same scenario. Several years ago, your father, a famous and popular cars designer, has built a car and sold it to one of his Italian friends. The car was based on one of your childhood drawings.

Il Destino R Coming back from Italy, you father gave you the key of his used cars showroom, where “the car” is back, just waiting for you. The game begins in the showroom, and you will have to figure out how to use the different items you’ll find there, in order to get out.

Il Destino R takes place in the same show room used for Il Destino: story and visuals are identical in both games, but objects have moved around, and puzzles are quite different and probably trickier, not to mention the new color of the car. Just use your mouse to point and click on items: sometimes, they need to be used together, you’ll have to try different combinations.

With a very high level of visuals and graphics, Il Destino R and its predecessor are two short but excellent point’n’click games.

Ringmania 2Ringmania 2 is a brand new skill game designed by JP, a French developer who previously designed Rebonds (read this post) and Ringmania.

In this game, you control with your mouse a set of black bubbles (magnets) and brown bumpers, connected together by invisible links.

Each level comes with a different set, including some colored rings connected to the black bubbles.

Ringmania 2When new rings appear during the game, the black bubbles attract them while they bounce on brown bumpers. Floating rings get stuck on black bubbles or on rings already stuck on black bubbles.

The goal of the game is to clear the playfield of all rings by connecting three or more rings of the same color to make them explode.

To add some stress, left and right borders of the playfield get closer each time a ring leave the screen: you must clear each of the 22 stages before you can’t move your set of bubbles.

Note: as the game includes a level editor, we could expect that JP add new levels in a near future.

I was a little confused the first time I played with Ringmania 2; but soon and with some practice, I discovered a much more entertaining and subtle game than the first opus, Ringmania.

With nice graphics, a very good physics implementation and sweet background music, Ringmania 2 is really an addictive game. Don’t start playing with Ringmania 2 if you just want to relax for a five to ten minutes break. Consider instead having fun with Rebonds.

But if you are prepared to spend hours playing with rings and magnets, this is the one.

Ringmania 2, a great game! Click.

Pop PiratesPop Pirates is an arcade scrolling shooter created by Bloc games for Diesel and their ProtoKid website. The pop pirates have hacked into the Protokid servers and are stealing all your music. You will be digitized as a protokid anti-virus software (yes!) in order to clean up the system from all viruses and get your music files as you go.

Pop PiratesUse the mouse to control your protokid and press the left button to fire. Shoot at every computer virus and try to collect music files they left as fast as you can to score maximum points. You will start the game with a simple blue ray gun, but you should quickly be able to upgrade your protokid gun with more powerful weapons such as killer-watt, mega-bite and fire-wall, each of them coming with different levels of power.

After some practice, you should end with a nice and sweet really powerful arsenal, all weapons firing simultaneously: this is where the game becomes to be really addictive. Don’t forget defensive power-ups such as anti-virus and magnetron, and try to catch every extra-life.

Each level comes with around twenty different waves of randomized virus, coming from any border of the screen; defeat the boss at the end of each level to go the next stage.

Pop Pirates is so far the best release from Bloc games. The game has very nice graphics and animations, a good soundtrack and is quite addictive.

Difficulty is correctly managed, and enemies hit points, speed and fire power increase throughout the game. Having said that, once your protokid is fully loaded with mega-bite x 8 and fire-wall x 6, fun really begins and you should consider next time to register yourself in order to let your name in the Hall of Fame!

Pop Pirates is a really nice arcade game: just click!
